Killing Sans

Nine to Five is a new 3×3×3 team-tactics first-person shooter. Set in a future where corporations rule and being a mercenary for them is just another job, collaboration and smart team play is what gets the job done around here – not just pure reflexes.

We designed a set of fonts for display and in-game usage. The interface required a regularly proportioned sans serif, kind of futuristic but mostly a neutral, legible style.

The logo provided some clues on the display flavours, with futuristic military-like stencils that were quite a challenge to balance out. We also provided the same proportion without the stencils for added flexibility.

Typefaces like DIN and Trade Gothic are successful for a reason. They are neutral, mechanical looking and considered workhorses that can be used in many situations. Theses references matched the games' story line – futuristic corporations where being an assassin is just an everyday job – perfectly.

The logotype provided the direction for the display stencil version.

The letters R, b, d are the easiest paths to identifying Killing Sans in the wild.

We also designed a basic Cyrillic set to match the Latin.
